Rejected Zero

CHAPTER ONE
F L A S H B A C K

It was late at night. And in the base of Robotnik, someone is having a bad night. Dingo lay squirming around in his bed. He was sweaty. Instead of dreams (usually about Sonia) he was having horrible flashbacks of all the times he had been called stupid, no good, a twit, a klutz, and many other insults.

“Like Dingo’s ever had an idea” –Robotnik
“You can’t even drink a glass of water without using two hands” –Sleet
“You idiot!” –Sleet
“And you’re ugly!” –Sleet
“He’s not a plant is he?” “No. But he’s almost as smart as one.” –Robotnik & Sleet

And there were still a lot more. Then he started having flashbacks of all the times Sonia rejected him. For example:

“Dingo. Will you be a dear and get me my coat? It’s down there.” Sonia says as she kicks him down the stairs.
“Sohnia!” Dingo says. Sonia makes a sick face. “Oh YUCK!”
“Later, Ding-bat!”
“When I heard you were dead, I couldn’t forgive myself!” Dingo says. Sonia replies sarcastically, “Oh. How sweet of you.”
“Ding-face!”
“Ooh! Pretty!” Dingo says. “I gotta leave!” says Sonia in return.

He thinks of so many other times.

MEANWHILE

Dingo is not the only one having a bad night of flashbacks. For Sonia is thinking of all the times Dingo was really thinking of her.

“Ooh! Pretty!”
“Those eyes! They can only belong to… Sohnia!”
“When I heard you died, I couldn’t forgive myself.”
“When I’m ruler of Mobius, Sohnia can be my queen!”
“She’s p’rty!”
Dingo drops the chaos emerald him and Sleet went through so much trouble to get for Sonia.

And that was only a few. There were many other times.
       Both of them sighed. They were both thinking the same thing. What was I thinking?
       Dingo, at Robotnik’s base, thought, She doesn’t want me. I guess I should give up. I’m probably being so annoying.
       But at the Sonic Underground’s van, Sonia was thinking the opposite. He so wanted me. But I wouldn’t let him. Maybe I should give him a chance. I’m probably being too hard on him.
       She finally was falling asleep, when the sound of drums woke her up. She sat straight up. At the door, Manic was banging on his drums. She had an angry look on her face. Manic laughed as he called back his drums. “I saw ya! You couldn’t get to sleep. You looked like you were thinking of someone. Like a boyfriend.” he said teasingly. She got a surprised look on her face. “No! I wasn’t thinking of someone! No one! Especially no boy! And the only person I would would be… uhh… Mom!” she said. Manic laughed. “Ha! Just kiddin’ with ya! And I banged on the drums because it was time to wake up.” Sonia put her elbows on her legs, and held her face in her hands. Manic got a sly smile on his face. “And because I wanted to wake you up just as you were fallin’ asleep!” he said. Sonia got out of bed. She walked toward Manic, an angry look on her face. Manic looked shocked. “Yuh-oh!” he said as he ran out. He ran outside, and knocked the chilidog out of Sonic’s hand. Sonic put his hand on his hips. “What’s that for?” he asked angrily. Manic stopped for a short second. “Can’t talk! Princess on the look.” he said. Sonia walked into view. “MANIC!” she yelled. Manic started running again. Sonic yelled after him, “Good luck, bro!”

MEANWHILE AT ROBOTNIK’S BASE

“You twit! What did you just do?” yelled an angry Robotnik. “You just spilled juice on my new carpet! I just got it in today!”
       There was a new carpet all over the room. And where Dingo was, there was a big, red stain. Dingo stood there, an empty glass in his hand. He looked tired. He went back to the Roboticizer Room. He stood in front of the control panel. Sleet was examining one of the roboticizers. In another one, a SWATbot was examining one. As Sleet stepped out of his, Dingo accidentally hit some of the switches. Sleet quickly stepped out of the machine as the wall came up. The SWATbot, on the other hand, was kept inside. Sleet was furious. “You idiot!” he yelled. “You can’t roboticize a SWATbot! It will overload the system!” Just then, an alarm went off. A computerized voice repeatedly said, “SYSTEM OVERLOAD. SYSTEM OVERLOAD. SYSTEM OVERLOAD.” Sleet quickly walked out, leaving Dingo inside. Robotnik walked in. “DINGO! YOU IDIOT!” he yelled furiously. “FIRST YOU SPILL JUICE ALL OVER MY NEW CARPET! NOW THIS! WHY, I MIGHT HAVE TO FIRE YOU!”
       Dingo looked disappointed. As he left, Robotnik mumbled, “Great. Now we have to build a new roboticizer.”
       Outside, Dingo looked at the sun, rising in the east. “Sohnia, I know you’re out there somewhere. And someday, I hope we can at least be friends.” he said. He looked toward the forest. Then back at the base. Then he set off towards the woods. “Maybe I should take a walk. No one will miss me. And it’ll only last for about an hour.”
